Over the next while we’ll be showcasing some of the new features in v5.3. With each release we add a lot of new functionality in various parts of Tembria Server Monitor but our users are busy fighting fires on the network and don’t always have time to dig in and explore. Here on our blog we’re planning to provide overviews of some of the coolest new features to help you decide whether or not we’ve got something new that’s going to improve your productivity.
Service Level Reports are a big new addition in v5.3. Our summary reports have been around since v4.x and have been through many updates since then but over the course of the past few releases we’ve been getting more and more requests for custom reporting that focuses on service levels. In version v5.3 we added a brand new report builder that lets you define your own custom reports that focus in on specific devices and event monitors.

Report Builder Settings
In many monitoring configurations there are two types of monitoring going on: First, there are the critical monitoring tasks that make sure essential network devices and services are up and running. Second, there are secondary monitoring tasks that provide information or keep track of non-critical events.
Ideally you don’t want to mix the two in your reporting. When your client or your boss comes to you and asks for a report showing the reliability of the network, you want to include all of the items in the first category while ignoring those in the second category.
Our new report builder lets you do exactly that. Use the choosers to select the devices and event monitors, specify some thresholds and scheduling then you’re off to the races.

Service Level Report Example
The reports themselves focus on the success or failure of each monitoring action that occurred during the report time period so you can provide service level metrics along the lines of “99.98% service level for the last 30 days”.
We hope you enjoy this new functionality in Tembria Server Monitor and if you have suggestions for further improvements to this feature or any other then drop us a note.
