It would be nice if the "Percent Success" dashboard item could be configured to calculate the success/failure of one or more event monitors (but not default to ALL monitors).
For example, success to me is not that a device is "pingable", but rather that my customers can get to my web server (cluster of web server).
Further, Success is not the failure of a single webserver either. So I would create a special monitor that would "HTTP to www.mywebserver.com" where www.mywebserver.com is a cluster and then I would like to monitor the "success" of that. If the cluster is available then I am golden. If an individual server is not available that is OK, that is part of my design.
I might have other monitors that HTTP to the specific servers to check their health, and I run ping on everything, but they should not impact the overall "success" of the infrastructure.
The "success rate" dashboard item is not really all that important by itself (i could just delete it and ignore it) but the idea that there is reporting that calculates the important metrics and give % results is important to my organization. i would like to be able to demonstrate that each month we are 100% up and if something ever showed 99.98% we would want to investigate what happened and why.
ALSO.. i dont know if you are aware or not, but the "success rate" dashboard item thinks the week starts on MONDAY. |

Our service level reports are designed to do that type of calculation so you might want to create one of them and explore the settings that are available. They let you select exactly which devices and event monitors you want to be included in the calculation and you can specify arbitrary date ranges.
You can't display the results in a dashboard, only view the generated report, but we plan to add a dashboard element that shows the results of a service level report.

Yes, we should make that configurable and I've added it to our requested features list.
