general device details Overview Identification By default, the display name field is the same as the name of the device as it was added. You can change the display name if you are more used to referring to a network device by another name. Also shown are the device name and IP address for the device which can be the same if the device was added using its IP address. The Type option lets you describe the network device. The dropdown list allows you to select from a variety of common network device type but you can enter your own value as well. The Operating System text box shows the operating system that was detected on the device by Tembria Server Monitor. Note that it is not always possible to determine the operating system. In general for Windows workstations on the local network, the operating system and version can be detected. For network devices not on the local network, Tembria Network Monitor tries to connect to a web server on the network device and determine the operating system type from the web server's response. In some cases, however, a web server may not be present or may not provide details about the operating system. Tembria Server Monitor displays the details that finds or 'Unknown' if the operating system cannot be determined. table of contents |
