device details - shares
Overview
For devices on the local network, Tembria Server Monitor can detect the files and printers that are being shared.

Shared folders are listed in the top list box. Shared folders that end with a dollar sign are called hidden shares because they don't normally appear when a user browses the computer. However, Tembria Server Monitor can detect hidden shares.

It is typical to see C$ listed and the equivalent for other disk drives on the network device. These are called the administrative shares and they are typically used by network administrators to connect to the machine and diagnose problems. The local administrator user id and password are usually required to access these shares.

In addition to file shares you may see a share called IPC$. The IPC$ share is used for temporary connections between clients and servers using named pipes for communications among network programs and is usually seen on most Windows machines.

If you prefer to not display them on this page, there is a check box that will hide hidden shares.

The lower list box shows the shared printers that were detected on the network device.
