directory event monitor Description The directory event monitor watches a specified directory for different types of conditions. Specify a directory name in the form of "\\[devicename]\directory". When the event monitor runs, the value [devicename] will be replace with by the name of the network device(s) that the event monitor assigned to. In the "Warn If" section you can select the conditions you want to check. You have the option to warn if the directory is present, if is missing, if it contains more than a specified number of files, or if the directory contains more than a specified amount of data measured in bytes, kilobytes, megabytes or gigabytes. The directory event monitor checks only the directory specified. Multiple instances of the directory monitor can be used to monitor additional subdirectories or directories in other locations. Usage Tips If a network service or application is crucial to operations then the ability to ensure that one or more folders for that service or application are present is valuable. More frequently however, there is a need to monitor a directory to ensure that the files contained within do not exceed defined thresholds. For example, an application that keeps log files can encounter a condition which causes an excessive amount of log entries to be generated. If this occurs in a short time it can indicate serious problem and threaten to consume available disk space. If you know that a particular set of log files does not exceed certain thresholds when the applications are working as expected you can use the directory event monitor to warn then those thresholds are exceeded. table of contents |
