Getting Started - Configuring Notifications
About Notifications
When something goes wrong, you need to know about it. Tembria Server Monitor offers many different ways
to let know about potential problems. By default all events are written to the integrated event history.
The event history is viewed from right within the Tembria Server Monitor interface and shows you a list
all recent events and their results.
Another option is to send e-mail when something goes wrong. E-mail notifications are the workhorses of
server monitoring solutions and are usually the best way of letting you know when there is an issue that
needs to be addressed. You can send e-mail notifications to multiple recipients. By default, HTML-formatted
messages are set but you can also select text-only notifications or compact notifications for your
cell phone or other mobile device.
Critical Notifications: By Phone and SMS
When there's been a major outage, sometimes e-mail notifications just are good enough, though.
If a critical switch or router goes now, if your internet connection goes down, or even if your
e-mail system is down, then you might never hear about it because the notifications get to you.
Tembria Server Monitor cover this with out-of-band notification by SMS and voice telephone call.
With an SMS/GPRS modem installed in the system where Tembria Server Monitor runs, it can send
SMS text messages over the air to you'll get notified on your cell phone or mobile device
even if your whole network is down. There are many types of SMS/GPRS modems with low-end
models available in the range of $75 USD. There are even USB models that can easily plugged
into any USB port so you don't have to open up a machine or install any cards.
Get in touch with our support staff and we can recommend a model based on your requirements.
Install a voice-enabled data modem and Tembria Server Monitor can take it one step further
and actually call you on your cell phone or land line and play a sound or message. Voice
modems are widely available. In this case there are also USB models which are very easy
to install. Not all modems have voice abilities so be sure to check the product literature.
Feel free to get in touch with our support staff and we'll be happy to recommend
a modem that will meet your needs.
