logon security event monitor Description The Logon Security event monitor watches the Security Event Log on one more Windows machines. It can warn if there is a successful logon by any one of a number of prohibited users that you specify. It can also warn about failed logon attempts. Use the Authentication button to specify a user name and password that has permission to access the Security Event Log on the remote machine. Also note that you may have to modify Local Security Policy settings to make sure that Windows is recording logon attempt information. To do so, go to the Administrative Tools section of the Control Panel and select the Local Security Policy option. In the Local Policies section, select the Audit Policy option. Then right-click on the 'Audit logon events' option and choose Properties. Select to audit Success and Failure events. On Windows domains the location of these settings may vary. A handy tip is to configure this event monitor on a schedule so that it only runs outside of business hours. This provides a convenient way to be notified of activity that occurs outside of normal business hours. table of contents |
