oracle event monitor Description The Oracle event monitor helps you to monitor the condition of database servers running Oracle. It can connect to the server, run SQL commands and optionally warn based on the results of the query. Actions and Warnings Selecting the first option in the list of actions and "warn if" conditions will notify you if the event monitor could not connect to the database. The second option in the list allows you to run a SQL statement and offers many ways to customize how it works. Use the Settings button to access the additional configuration options. In the dialog that appears you can specify the database to connect to on the server and a SQL statement to run. Other option include the ability to show a number of the result rows returned by the query or to warn if a specified text value is found in the results. Pre-requisites Some Oracle components need to be installed before you can use this event monitor. Be sure to install the Oracle Client software. The following components from the Oracle Client installation are required: Oracle Network Utilities, Oracle Windows Interfaces. Click here to visit the Oracle Software Downloads page. Important: After installing the Oracle Client components, restart Windows. Although the Oracle Client does not prompt you to do so, a restart is necessary. Until the system is restarted, the newly installed Oracle components are not available to applications that run as a service, such as the Tembria Server Monitoring service. Also required are the Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC). MDAC is the standard set of components used by Windows in order to access databases of all kinds. On many Windows systems MDAC is already installed. If the event monitor informs you that MDAC is not installed, click here to download MDAC from the Microsoft web site. Authentication In the Authentication section enter the credentials you wish to use to connect to the Oracle server. The Oracle event monitor connects using Oracle authentication (not Windows authentication) so you should specify an Oracle user name and password. table of contents |
